Kubernetes has become the default container orchestrator framework, setting the standards for application deployment in a distributed environment. In the past decade, numerous tools and interfaces have been developed to extend Kubernetes' capabilities and enhance its functionalities.
Wasm and eBPF have gained significant attention in the cloud-native space in recent years, evolving over nearly a decade, much like Kubernetes. Their growing prominence reflects the increasing demand for more mature workload requirements, such as enhanced security, optimized performance, and seamless interoperability, as organizations continue to refine their cloud-native strategies.
Sustainability has become a key consideration in the evolution of the cloud-native ecosystem, encompassing both environmental and community aspects. As organizations refine their cloud-native strategies, balancing economic growth with climate responsibility drives the need for energy-efficient technologies. At the same time, open governance and a focus on diversity help foster a resilient community that promotes sustainable innovation. Reducing environmental impact while cultivating an inclusive culture is essential to shaping the future of cloud-native.
This keynote will feature the core principles and tooling that define the cloud native ecosystem. The decade of innovation is represented by a sustainable community that enables us to build technology through interoperability, inclusivity at the community and adopters level, and a culture that embraces emerging ideas and trends.
Katie is a cloud native leader, practitioner, and contributor, currently in a Senior Field Engineer role at Apple and a member of the TOC for CNCF (Cloud Native Computing Foundation). As a cloud platform engineer, Katie has contributed to infrastructure buildout at Conde Nast and American Express, gravitating towards cloud-native technologies, principles, and Kubernetes as the focal point. At CNCF (Cloud Native Computing Foundation), she was a Technical Oversight Committee member and led the CNCF End User Community. At present, Katie is also part of the OpenUK C-suite.
Recently, Katie released the Cloud Native Fundamentals course and led the creation of the CNCF KCNA (Kubernetes and Cloud Native Associate) certification. Additionally, Katie is an active keynote speaker, a #WITAwards and #TechWomen100 winner, and a strong advocate for women in STEM.
Kohei Ota is a software engineer at Apple and a CNCF Ambassador. His contributions to CNCF began with translating Kubernetes documentation, and he now leads as one of the owners overseeing reviewers in the same project.
In 2023, he participated in the launch of Cloud Native Community Japan (CNCJ), continuing to work towards the spread of cloud-native technology and the growth of the community in Japan.
